Engulfing pattern — definition & meaning

A two-candle reversal signal where one candle fully covers the prior one.

An engulfing pattern is a two-candle signal where the second candle's body completely engulfs the first. A bullish engulfing appears after a decline; a bearish one after a rally.

It suggests a sharp shift in control from buyers to sellers or vice versa. It is more reliable at key levels and with confirmation than in the middle of choppy price action.
