A break of structure happens when price closes beyond the previous swing high (in an uptrend) or low (in a downtrend), confirming the trend is continuing.
SMC traders use a BOS to stay with the trend, and its opposite — a change of character — to spot when the trend may be turning. It is a way of reading momentum through structure rather than indicators.
