Day order — definition & meaning

An order that expires at the end of the trading day if unfilled.

A day order is only valid for the current trading session — if it has not filled by the close, it is automatically cancelled.

Day orders suit short-term traders who reassess their setups each day. They are the opposite of good-'til-cancelled orders.
