Market order — definition & meaning

An order to buy or sell immediately at the best available price.

A market order executes right away at whatever price is currently available. It prioritises speed of execution over price certainty.

Because you take the current price, market orders can suffer slippage in fast or thin markets. Use them when getting into or out of a trade quickly matters more than the exact price.
