Tick — definition & meaning

The minimum price increment an instrument can move.

A tick is the smallest possible price change for a given instrument. Each market has its own tick size — for example, a futures contract might move in ticks of 0.25.

Tick value is how much money one tick is worth per contract. Traders in futures often think in ticks the way forex traders think in pips.
