Point — definition & meaning

A single unit of price movement, used for indices, stocks and pips.

A point is a general unit of price movement. On stock indices it usually means one whole number of the index; on many broker platforms 'point' refers to the last decimal shown, which for forex equals a pipette.

Because the meaning varies by market and platform, always check how your broker defines a point before sizing a trade or reading a spread quote.
