Rollover — definition & meaning

The daily process of carrying a position past the session close.

Rollover is the daily point at which open positions are 'rolled' into the next day, triggering the swap interest adjustment. In forex it typically happens at 5pm New York time.

Holding through rollover means paying or receiving swap. On Wednesdays many brokers apply triple swap to account for the weekend settlement, which can surprise traders who don't expect it.
