Exposure — definition & meaning

The total amount of money at risk across your open positions.

Exposure is how much you stand to gain or lose from market moves, based on the combined size of your open positions.

Leverage can make exposure far larger than your account balance. Keeping an eye on total exposure — especially across correlated trades — is central to not being wiped out by one bad move.
