Dividend — definition & meaning

A share of company profits paid out to shareholders.

A dividend is a portion of a company's profit paid to its shareholders, usually as cash on a regular schedule.

Not all companies pay dividends. If you hold a share CFD over the record date, brokers usually make a dividend adjustment to your account to reflect it, without you owning the actual stock.
