Equity — definition & meaning

Your account balance adjusted for the profit or loss on open trades.

Equity is what your account would be worth if you closed every open position right now. It equals your balance plus or minus any unrealised profit or loss.

Equity is the number that really matters, because margin calls and stop-outs are based on it — not on your starting balance.
