RaiseFX demo account: how to practise for free

What the RaiseFX demo account is, how to make the most of it, and the honest limits of demo trading before you risk real money.

What a demo account is

A demo account lets you place trades with pretend money on real, live prices. RaiseFX offers one for free, and it is by far the best place for any beginner to start. It costs nothing, risks nothing, and runs on the same MT4 or MT5 platform you would use for real — so everything you learn transfers directly to a live account later.

The whole point is to make your beginner mistakes where they cost only time. You can misplace an order, forget a stop-loss, or misjudge a trade completely, and lose nothing but a few pretend dollars. That is exactly the kind of safe practice a new trader needs and rarely gives themselves enough of.

How to make the most of it

Spend weeks on the demo, not hours. Learn the mechanics thoroughly: how to open and close a trade, how to set and move a stop-loss, how the platform displays your running profit and loss, and where the tools you need actually live. Treat it like a flight simulator — repetition until the basics are second nature.

Keep a trading journal from the very first demo trade. Write down what you traded, why, what happened, and how you felt. This habit costs nothing on demo and becomes one of your most honest teachers, showing you your real patterns rather than the ones you imagine you have.

The honest limits of demo trading

Demo trading has one important weakness: it teaches the mechanics, not the emotions. When the money is pretend, you feel nothing, so you make cool, rational decisions you may not repeat once real money is on the line. Many traders are calm and disciplined on demo and then behave completely differently the moment it counts.

So use the demo to master the buttons and build a routine, but do not mistake demo success for readiness to profit. The emotional side — fear, greed, the urge to overtrade — only shows up with real money, and it is where most beginners actually come undone.

Moving on when you are ready

When the platform feels routine and you have thought hard about whether trading suits you, you can move to a small live account. Deposit only what you would be fine losing entirely, keep trade sizes tiny, and expect the emotional difference to be real. The demo got you the skills; the discipline is now the job.

And keep expectations grounded. A free demo removes the excuse to trade real money before you are ready, but it cannot change the underlying odds: most retail traders lose money. Practise hard, start small, and never let a good demo run convince you that trading is easy or safe.
